I bought two tickets, one too many: how to resell it properly

The most valuable thing about a sold-out concert ticket isn't the price, but the trust the buyer places in you, a stranger on the other side of the screen. If you mess that up, that ticket is worthless. If you handle it well, the negotiation itself becomes a small community of enthusiasts exchanging seats in the stands or front row.

The resale price is always a compromise. Anti-scalping laws in Italy prevent reselling above face value through professionals, but for private individuals, there's a space where, under certain conditions, you can recoup your expenses without becoming a secondary market vendor. Knowing the precise rules for your specific event is more useful than any generic advice.

One lesson I've learned from the major tours of the past year is that the media attention surrounding certain events attracts opportunists in record time. In the days leading up to a Taylor Swift or Vasco concert in Milano, fake listings multiply on social media. Selling in a protected environment also means not being confused, in the buyer's eyes, with the flood of scammers exploiting the same name.

A common mistake is to show the PIN code during negotiations, perhaps "just to prove it's real." Once exposed, you no longer have control over it: anyone who saw that screen could have copied it. If you absolutely must show the ticket, show the graphic part and the non-redeemable number, never the full code.

The moment of delivery is when negotiations most often fall apart. The buyer wants to see the ticket before paying, the seller wants the money before handing it over. Secure online payment solves precisely this problem: funds are held in protected payment, the seller delivers calmly, the buyer verifies, and only then does the money change hands.

If you're selling concert tickets online, the first question you need to answer is: is my ticket nominative? The vast majority of shows in Italy today are, and the transfer requires an official process through the ticketing website. Ignoring that step means selling a ticket that might not work at the turnstile, and the buyer will rightfully come knocking at your door.

Then, of course, sometimes something unexpected will still happen. It's part of the game. But when it does, if you've done your groundwork well, the problem will be resolved with a few emails and not a police report. That's already a huge victory, even if it doesn't seem like it.
